So I survived my first gym workout in five months! It wasn’t hard at all, although I found that I have lost some strength, probably more due to the hormonal changes and extra load on the body rather than due to muscle loss. But still I am extremely happy I went there and nailed it! I’m not really happy with the gym itself though.

My husband and I have been members there for over two years – and not just members, but the members who are always there, come hell or high water. Every single on of the staff knows us and let us in without the card if we forgot it. My hubby, who always works out late, has often been allowed to stay past the closing time to finish his workout. We shared a family membership, but this year, since I got pregnant and skipped 5 months and have only another 4 to go (at max) and who knows when I will be back after the baby is born, we decided to change the family membership to the single one. He spoke with the manager, he said ‘No prob. Pay as you go is 6 euro’. So I’m coming today with neatly prepared six euro and tell the girl that I’m going Pay as You Go, and she says ’10 euro’. TEN EURO! This is officially the most expensive rate I have ever seen in the gyms, even those who charge over 499 per year for a single membership (our charges 399). That was totally unexpected. Next she says ‘It’s 6 euro only if you go with a member, since you’re alone it’s 10’. Wow. Technically I am still a member, because the membership has not been changed yet. She charged me 6 ‘just today, but next time it’ll be 10’. I said thanks, went into the changing room and sat there unable to move. I know it’s the hormones, but I just wanted to cry and storm out of the gym without working off those 6 damn euros. It’s just ridiculous.

I went in in the end and worked the best I could, thinking that it might as well be the last time I was there. We promised our little girl to go swimming tomorrow but I honestly have no wish to go back, even though I’ll pay just 6 euros going together with my husband. If there was any other gym as near as this one to our house (2 min walk) I’d switch right now, but it’s the closest and familiar one.

Anyways, the rant is over.

My Preggo Gym Workout was the upper body workout which I started with random full body warm up, like squats, lunges, a bit of biceps, back and shoulders with light dumbbells. Then it was as follows:

  1. Dumbbell Curls – 3 sets of 12 reps.
  2. Overhead Triceps Extension – 2 sets of 12 reps.
  3. Triceps – Cable (rope attachment) push down – 3 sets of 12 reps.
  4. Superset: Standing (slightly bent over) single arm cable row – 3 sets of 12 reps.          Rope rear delt pull  – 3 sets of 12 reps.
  5. Superset: Seated chest press (machine) – regular grip – 3 sets of 15 reps.                Seated chest press – close grip (triceps) – 3 sets of 15 reps.
  6. Lat pull down – 3 sets of 12 reps.
  7. Arnold press – 2 sets of 12 reps.
Then I finished off with some stretches, mainly from yoga.

My poor tiny bicep lost all of its definition 😦
A few things that I noticed were the pain in my shoulder when doing triceps extensions, hence I did only 2 sets and went onto the cables; and pain in my long injured wrist when doing rope push downs. Well, it’s no wonder since in pregnancy all the joints get kind of weaker and tender, but I didn’t notice these problems when performing exercises with the resistance band.
Anyway, the plan for today is done. The active part of it. Have yet to study the herbal history – the last 2.5 pages! Yay! – and revise my favourite Swedish language. And of course play with my sweet girl! But first, onto this yummy Yippie!:

Seriously the yummiest protein bar ever! And Rooibos tea is a great addition post-workout due to its antioxidant content.
